Backpacks Full of Blessings
By Wings Ministries
Through community outreach, Dr. Missy Settlemyre, founder of WINGS Ministry, discovered that children in her own hometown of Shallotte, NC, were spending weekends hungry—not in a distant country, but in her local community. Motivated by this need, she partnered with local schools and volunteer organizations to launch the Backpack Full of Blessings Outreach in 2010, initially serving 35 students.
Today, WINGS Ministry has expanded its reach, providing support to over 525 students across local communities.

In addition to Shallotte, WINGS Ministry also serves children and families in South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Alabama. The ministry goes beyond food assistance, offering Bibles, school supplies, clothing, shoes, and blankets to ensure children and their families have the resources they need to thrive.
How It Works
Items are donated by local businesses and individuals that are collected at Wings.
Weekly, volunteers fill backpacks with nutritious food for the children and their family.
Backpacks are delivered to schools on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
Backpacks go home with children from school on Friday afternoons.
